What is Island Plastics, “Agri-Plas Lumber”?

Plastic Lumber is maintenance and paint free, permanently colored building product that will never splinter, rot, or be eaten by insects.

 

What can I build with Agri-Plas Lumber?

It is an ideal product for decks, docks, bulkheads, Box Culverts, landscaping, fencing, window and door trim, outdoor chairs and picnic tables, and any other outdoor application where wood would require frequent maintenance, painting and replacement, it can be used indoors for shower stalls, counter tops, base boards, and much more.  Its uses are limited only by your imagination.

 

Does it come in standard lumber sizes and lengths?

We manufacture nominal sizes including decking boards, square and round posts.

Is it really maintenance and paint free?

YES!  Since Plastic Lumber doesn’t absorb moisture, it never needs waterproofing, painting, or staining.  Furthermore it will never rot, crack, split, or splinter

 

What colors can I choose from?

Standard color is Grey.  Almond, (beige) and other custom colors are also available.

 

Does it, “Work” like wood?

YES!  You can cut, nail, screw, drill, turn and router plastic lumber with standard wood working tools. Many Customers compare to working with “Oak”.

 

Can an entire deck or dock be built out of Plastic Lumber?

YES! For decking surfaces, rails, balusters, benches and other similar applications, you would use our premium grade plastic lumber.  For specific uses and configurations, please consult with our customer service representatives. 

 

Does it really last forever?

All Agri-Plas Lumber has a very long maintenance free product life.  Engineers estimate that it will last many years with minimal degradation.  Agri-Plas manufacturers offer a 25 year limited warranty.

 

 

 

 

Is it slippery when wet? Agri-Plas Lumber has a “textured surface” and is not as slippery as painted wood when wet or dry. Plastic Lumber does not absorb water.

 


Does it break, melt or burn?

Under normal conditions and use, cold and hot temperatures will not affect plastic lumber.  Although is has a higher kindling point than wood and is self extinguishing when flame is removed, Agri-Plas lumber, like wood, will burn when exposed to a combustion source for a long period of time.

 

Is Agri-Plas Lumber environmentally sound?

 

YES!

 

                 Agri-Plas lumber is made of 100% recycled plastics, which would normally end up in landfill or burn stations.

                 Agri-Plas plastic lumber will not leach and contaminate the soil because it is non-porous and contains none of the chemical hazards associated with chemically treated lumber.

Will nails and screws pull out like they do with wood?

Agri-Plas lumber holds nails and screws more than 50% stronger than wood.

 

Can Agri-Plas lumber be used as a “Structural material”?

No, Agri-Plas lumber is not meant for structural use.

 

How much will Agri-Plas lumber expand & contract?

Linear expansion & contraction must be considered.  An 8-foot section may expand or contract 1/4"with a 50% temperature change.  For example, if the deck is installed at 50 degrees F and the deck temperature increases to 100 degrees F it will grow 1/4".  To calculate expansion & contraction use the following formula .00007 x length of board in inches x degrees F of temperature change = inches of expansion or contraction in length dimension.
