Academy of Sciences Conference

April 5-7, 2001

Crowne Plaza Hotel

White Plains, New York

This conference will review and update the state of knowledge on
arboviruses in general and the West Nile Virus in particular. The
conference will give individuals and agencies working on the detection,
surveillance, control, treatment, management and other aspects of the
WNV an opportunity to discuss their findings from the Summer of 2000
and earlier. The meetingÕs primary goal is to enhance understanding of
the problems associated with WNV and to develop more effective and
better-coordinated efforts to address future concerns. Topics include:
an historical overview; epidemiology, distribution and spread of the
WNV; surveillance mechanisms; international lessons; human and
veterinary pathology; viral and vector biology; and antiviral and
vaccine interventions. There will also be panel discussions on
laboratory testing, interventions, and strategies for dealing with WNV
in 2001. The format of the conference will involve in-depth
presentations from invited speakers and a poster session.

This conference will be of interest to public health experts and
officials, biologists, ecologists, pest control experts, public policy
analysts and managers, and others who have research interests or
managerial responsibilities in this area. Individuals from academic,
government and research institutions as well as local, state, and
federal agencies would benefit from attending the conference.
