<x-flowed iso-8859-1>Pardon my lack of knowledge (layman writing), but I'm wondering what risk the
EPM vaccine might have contributed. It is also conditional, and it is also a
Ft. Dodge product. I realize EPM is not WNV, but if there is some possible
correlation between the parasitic myelitis and the encephalitis or their
vaccines, I would like to be aware of it. Could an adjuvant have contributed
to the mare's reaction and subsequent death?
Potomac vaccine is not an efficacious one, but I've not heard of it being
dangerous. Could it have contributed to this mare's reaction being given at
the same time as the other two? (The ONLY time I vaccinate my horses for
more than one disease is when I give EEE/Wee, or sometimes EEE/WEE/tetanus.
Otherwise they get at least 10 days between vaccines, though I'm not one to
give many.)
Note – My vet decided to vaccinate for WNV and maintains the decision despite
reservations about its efficacy. He does not use the EPM vaccine at all as
he has not been satisfied with the info available so far and does not want to
deal with the unknown risks.
I'm very interested to hear everything possible from immunologists,
veterinarians and others who have insight into the death of Mr. Pursley's
mare.
Sincerely,
Samantha A. Matson
