I am a active.birder, have a business to care for peoples feeders while
they are a way, and a Habitat Steward for NWF. In all these capacities
I have noticed a remarkable decline in the birds. Also noticed last
summer the lack of bats. After the Backyard bird count I noticed a
"white area" in my area of northern New Jersey-Oakland 07436. If you
look at other towns such as Ringwood, Mahwah, Ramsey over the past few
years you will see the same drop. In the summer of 2003 I began to
notice dead birds. Many sparrows and blue jays.
Contacting our town and County was told they were not interested for
they were not crows. Now we are just about void of sparrows, all types,
blue jays, mourning doves, crows, and our state bird the
goldfinch.Though I still have the pesky squirrels, their population has
been greatly reduced. If you look at the maps we are in the 1999 area.
I hope that this information is helpful. Please know that I will
continue my independent study and will help in any way I can.
