Culex restuans may be underrepresented in dry ice traps (Brust, R.A., 1990. Oviposition behavior of natural populations of Culex tarsalis and Culex restuans (Diptera:Culicidae) in artificial pools. J. Med. Entomol. 27:248-255.).
In gravid traps, the relative species abundance of Cx. pipiens and Cx. restuans may depend on the infusion used as bait (Lampman, R.L. and R.J. Novak, 1996. Oviposition preference of Culex pipiens and Culex restuans for infusion-baited traps. J. Am. Mosq. Control Assoc. 12:23-32).
We had considerable success with Ae. albopictus in gravid traps (Lampman, R.L. and R.J. Novak, 1996. Attraction of Aedes albopictus adults to sod infusion. J. Am. Mosq. Control Assoc. 12:119-124).
Our pools of Culex from this year are scheduled to be analyzed later to determine whether they were a mixture of rest.-pips-sals.
