The Scourge label allows applications over tidal marshes and freshwater swamps, and directly over tidal water. It does not allow direct application over lakes, ponds and streams. We have done aerial applications in areas with lakes and ponds, and we cut off over them. We have observed setbacks from major bodies of water when it has been possible to do so. These applications have worked well. No evidence of direct effects on fish, etc, even applied over a tidal marsh. Modern ULV techniques result in very little material reaching the ground or water. We have been working with our State DEC on this issue, and it appears we are finding ways to do effective aerial adulticiding while still protecting aquatic habitiats. This is important because we get WNV activity in swamps and marshes, and that's where mosquitoe s live. You need to control adult mosquitoes in such environments to effectively deal with WNV and other pathogens.

EPA has established specific precautions on the label to reduce such risks, including restrictions that prohibit the direct application of products to open water or within 100 feet of lakes, streams, rivers or bays.
Are there many areas of the US where it is possible to spray pyrethroids so that you are not within a hundred feet of any streams or ponds or any other bodies of open water. Where these areas what sort of mosquito problem do you have?
