- Center for Disease Control (CDC) is a Federal Agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services. It is an important research and information hub on WNV. It helps to have several points of entry to learn about all their resources:

The CDC's MMWR ("Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report") (http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/) is targetted to health care practitioners and researchers. Since Fall 1999, the MMWR has periodically featured brief updates on WNV, with scientific references.

NPIC (formerly the National Pesticide Telecommunication Network, NPTN) is a cooperative effort of the US EPA and Oregon State University to provide science-based information on pesticides. - US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a searchable website (http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/) with information on pesticides registered for use in the United States. EPA has updated its factsheets about mosquito controls (See index for the series "Pesticides for Mosquito Control" at http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/factsheets/skeeters.htm).
- US Geological Survey, National Wildlife Health Center USGS NWHC is working with other agencies to determine the magnitude and distribution of WNV in the US. Among their efforts are a multi-state surveillance network along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts to detect and monitor movement of WNV in birds. - US Geological Survey, Center for Integration of Natural Disaster Information is collaborating with the CDC to produce web-based maps detailing 2002 WNV activity. Produced on a weekly basis, the maps currently show the results for 5 categories of surveillance: avian cases, human cases, veterinary cases, mosquito cases, and sentinel cases. - Westchester County Department of Health maintains a comprehensive "West Nile Virus Watch" website that includes weekly updates; many fact sheets, pamphlets and maps; and a section for physicians. The 24 hour WN Information Line (914-813-5609) provides information on WNV and how you can protect yourself against mosquito bites. ERAP's West Nile Virus education program has been supported by Smith-Lever funds from the USDA Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service (CSREES), through a grant from Cornell Cooperative Extension, and by a grant from the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's Office of Global Programs (NOAA-OGP) for the project "Climate Effects, West Nile Virus Vector Development, and Transmission Risk" (Sept 1, 2004-Aug 31, 2007).
